The University in Burdwan was founded in 1960. It was awarded 4 star status by NAAC is a public university located in Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. It started functioning from 15 June, 1960 with 30 undergraduate colleges spread over five districts that came under the jurisdiction of the university.
The University has all the necessary amenities  like a computer center, well equipped central library, modern health center, and instrumentation centre. The University also has maintained a museum and art gallery at Rajbati that displays the pottery of prehistoric age.
