University of North Bengal

The University of North Bengal was established in 1962 by an act of the Legislature of West Bengal with an aim to impart education through the means of teaching, training and research. Since its establishment, this university has focused on various disciplines of advanced learning. Another aim of this university is to promote knowledge in order to revolutionize the scenario of socio economic and technical education.

The university played the pioneering role in producing skilled manpower to fulfill the need in the rapidly changing and developing technocracy.

The University is re-accredited by NAAC as B++.

Faculties in North Bengal University:

The North Bengal University comprises the following faculties, namely:

• Faculty of Science
• Faculty of Arts
• Faculty of Commerce
• Faculty of Law

All these faculties offer both under graduate and post graduate courses to the students. Research scholars can go for M. Phil and doctorate programs offered by the university.

Courses in University of North Bengal:

In all disciplines of science, arts, commerce and law, students are offered wide array of courses, both under graduate and post graduate courses.

At the under graduate level, there are all total 87 affiliated colleges under jurisdiction of North Bengal University and these colleges spread over six north Bengal districts, namely: Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Malda. There are some colleges which are affiliated to the North Bengal University are also located in Sikkim. All these colleges are imparting knowledge on various disciplines of Science, Arts, Commerce and Law.

At the post graduate level, this university offers M.A, M.Sc, M.Com and LLM degrees to students. Those students, who after completing their post graduation level are interest to go for higher studies this university has M. Phil and Ph. D programs to offer them.

The University of North Bengal has also introduced wide range of self financed courses, such as:

• PG Diploma in Marketing Management
• PG Diploma in Environmental Law
• PG Diploma in Mass Communication and Video Production
• Diploma in French

Admission in University of North Bengal:

Admission in University of North Bengal happens exclusively on the basis of merit list. Both for under graduate and post graduate level admission, marks obtained by students in their 10+2 and 10+2+3 examinations are considered. In the research level programs offered by the University applicants have to sit for a qualifying examination, followed by an interview.
